ATENA: knowing, knowing how to do, knowing how to be

Athena (Ἀθηνᾶ) is the Greek goddess of wisdom. The owl that accompanies her represents knowledge, wisdom, insight, and learning.

The CEPI training program takes its name from her. ATENA triples legal requirements, providing 72 hours of training per employee. From basic to advanced notions, from technical training to coaching, and health education and prevention, ATENA includes transversal and specialized courses featuring lessons, informative snippets, training sessions, events, and seminars. The plan was defined based on a survey aimed at identifying the needs and requirements of our employees.

The Training Committee, which drafts the plan for each three-year period, is composed of:

LIKE AN ECOSYSTEM

We have chosen to observe nature to understand the systems and solutions it requires. Following this principle, we view our work and the people who collaborate with us as an ecosystem. Each individual is an irreplaceable element whose talent we are committed to valuing and cultivating, for the benefit of both the individual and the group. Therefore, training is not a top-down distribution of knowledge, but a process of learning and growing together, organically and in harmony.

GOAL 4

CEPI’s sustainability strategy is built around the 5Ps of Sustainable Development, which group the 17 goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda into the fundamental principles of People, Planet, Prosperity, Partnership, and Peace. Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and to promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

KNOWING, KNOWING HOW TO DO KNOWING HOW TO BE

Our competencies derive from the triangulation of knowledge, skills, and attitudes:
  • Knowing concerns knowledge (cognitive domain).
  • Know-how concerns capabilities, skills, and experience (psychomotor domain).
  • Knowing how to be concerns behaviors and attitudes (affective domain): these are transversal skills (soft skills) such as communication, empathy, and leadership qualities. Knowing how to be relates to personal identity and presupposes that, first and foremost, we know ourselves well.

LEARNING TO LEARN

With the ATENA program, we aim to foster a learning method based on the concept of “Learning to learn,” which places the desire to learn at the center, alongside the mastery of rules, strategies, and objectives necessary for effective performance, adaptability to learning situations, the development of curiosity, and the use of less conventional forms of thinking.
Adult education has been identified as a priority theme for the European Education Area for the 2021-2030 period. The capacity to “learn to learn” has been identified as a key competence, defined as the ability to persevere in learning and to organize it, including through effective time and information management.
